Coconut tree (Cocos nucifera) is a member of the family Arecaceae (palm family) 

It is the only species in the genus Cocos received. Term coconut can refer to the entire coconut, seeds, or fruit, which, botanically, is a drupe, not nuts. Spelling coconut is an ancient form of the word. The term is derived from 16th century Portuguese and Spanish word coco means "head" or "skull", of the three grooves on the coconut shell that resemble facial features. coconut is known for its great versatility as seen in the many uses of the different parts and are found throughout the tropics and subtropics. Coconut is part of the daily diet of many people. Coconut different from other fruits because they contain large amounts of "water" and as adults they are known as soft-jelly-beans or nuts and can be harvested for drinking. 

 

As adults, they still contain water and can be used as seednuts or processed to provide oil from the kernel, charcoal of hard shell and husk of the fibrous husk. endosperm initially in its nuclear phase suspended within the coconut water.
